Alonso wants McLaren to help

Fernando Alonso has called on McLaren to help Ferrari take points off world championship leaders Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull.

Alonso wants McLaren to help

Sunday's German Grand Prix was the first race this season in which a driver from both teams had finished ahead of Vettel, who has built a dominant lead in the championship after winning six of the first eight races.

In taking the chequered flag, and with Vettel only fourth, Lewis Hamilton managed to close the gap to Vettel to 82 points, whilst Alonso is 86 adrift after finishing second.

The Spanish double world champion knows the only way to hunt down Vettel is for both himself and old rivals McLaren to continue their pincer-movement assault on the 24-year-old.

"If you start from pole position, you have a second advantage in your car and you lead the whole race, it's very easy," said Alonso with regard to a number of Vettel's performances this season.

"When there is more competition you need to race in a different way, to be perfect in all things: the start, pit stops, qualifying etcetera.

"In Germany they maybe had some difficulties in one of the areas, but they are still very, very quick.

"They were on pole (with Mark Webber), and for me they are by far the favourites for the next race in Budapest (Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday).

"If we have races like in Germany and we are on the podium and he (Vettel) isn't, then there is a small chance to recover the gap in the championship.

"But we also need the best possible performance from our team-mates, and we need the best McLaren performance as well, to see the McLarens very, very strong and taking points from Red Bull."

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said they needed to launch an all-out assault on Red Bull.

"What we need to do is attack every race and then later on see what is happening with the championship," said Domenicali.

"Of course the more drivers and cars that can fight, the easier it is to score more points and minimise the gap because at the moment it is still very big."

F1: vettel says he stands nowhere near schumi...

Vettel: Schumi's record unbeatable

sebastian vettel believes that he cannot match any the records created by michal schumacher which he has created . although being the world champion last season and probably doing the best this season vettel says:

Schumacher won seven world titles, 91 grands prix, was on pole 68 times, set 76 fastest laps and managed 154 podiums - all leading the way in their respective categories.

in contrast to schumi's record vettel says is is nowhere near him and when asked if he would be the next michal schumacher he says that's beyond his reach.

i very much admire vettel's thought. as far as i think a player must never underestimate any other and just believe in yourself and try to become the best and always give your best and gain respect !

cheers to vettel and schumi both are the best racers in the history of F1 racing!!!!!! keep going good!!!

branks on top at vancouver !

American kris blanks got an early lead at the RBC canadian open after shooting an opening 67 in vancouver.

World number one Luke Donald had just started his round and was level par after the opening hole.

Fellow Englishman Paul Casey could only manage a six-over-par 76.

rooney : liverpool may be a threat this season

Wayne Rooney sees Liverpool as a threat to Manchester United's Barclays Premier League defence next season.

The England international has never made any secret of his antipathy for the Anfield outfit.

A boyhood Evertonian, Liverpool were always the enemy and after scoring the penalty which sealed United's record title triumph, Rooney posted a picture on Twitter showing he had the number 19 shaved into his chest hair.

However, he does recognise the revolution that has taken place under Kenny Dalglish.

Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam have joined this summer, giving the Reds a British feel following the £35million arrival of Andy Carroll in January.

And whilst it might be 21 years since Liverpool last finished top, Rooney thinks they have the capability to end that run.

"I think Liverpool will challenge this time," he said.

"They have made some really good signings - British players - and, under Kenny Dalglish, I am sure they will be fighting harder than they ever have done to be up there.

"They will think they have a chance of winning the title."

ITS A RAFA-NOVAK SHOWDOWN AT WIMBLEDON

on sunday at the championships wimbledon we will get to see top seeded and currently ranked world no.1 rafael nadal against the world no. 2 novak djokovic (soon to become world no.1).

on friday's semifinal clash Novak Djokovic ousted frenchmen Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in four sets 7-6 6-2 7-6 6-3 and entered his first final at wimbledon .on monday he would also become world no. 1 according to the south african atp ranking.

On the other hand spaniard and world no.1 Rafael Nadal was up against britain's hope and fourth seeded Andy Murray. Rafa defeated murray in four sets 5-7 6-2 6-2 6-4.

the match started off well no breaks were done until 5-5. murray served and was at 5-6 rafa was serving but somehow he lost his control over that game and murray played some extraordinary shorts to get the set 7-5.

in the second set it was 2-2 when rafa somehow managed to get his first break of the match 40-30 aftr and hour and 13 minutes. And soon rafa converted that break into his game.

further rafa's extraordinary game play and some superior shots the banana shot and the vicious top spin and forehand groundstokes gave him advantage breaking murray twice and was 5-2 .
he won the set with an ease. some same kinda situation also happened in the third set where he early break murray and was serving again 5-2 and won the set again 5-2.

the fourt set also as earlier rafa broke murray but only once and some unexpected shots probably play of the day we had a chance to see. when rafa is on center court playing semi final you must expect something from nadal . and he has such great level of tennis that you are sure to see some of it. finally rafa won 5-7 6-2 6-2 6-4.

practically speaking murray is also responsible he was a bit groaning in pain and also he show a lot of anger on court on himself plus rafa was calm and quiet and took advantage of this plus he showed off his game and beat murray once again.

later on in a short interview rafa said "i am very sorry for andy he played batter and he deserved to be in the finals , but i wish him luck for the rest of his career". he even said "playing against djokovic at the finals would be a lot more difficult on sunday but i try playing my best ".

rafa now faces novak djokovic though in the last four meeting novak djokovic won all four this year but on grass rafa has a 2-0 lead and in granslam final rafa leads 1-0 at us open 2010 . let us see what happens at finals of wimbledon 2011 on sunday evening!
